Collected: The Laramie Project reflective writing

Content: We began the poverty unit today, and students completed an activity that ranked possible causes of poverty. We then discussed these reasons and theories. Students completed a sample personal budget to raise their own awareness about how much they make and how much they spend each month. The poverty project was also introduced.

Content: Students used their meal planners, which were to be completed for today, to start the second handout of the poverty project. This handout is a spreadsheet which will look at the cost of the groceries needed for the meals they planned previously. We also looked at nutritional values of the meals. The last part of class was spent watching an Oprah Winfrey special report on poverty in America.

Content: Today's lesson was on solidarity. Students were asked to read a Catholic Update article about global solidarity, which we then discussed. We also talked more about the movie Invisible Children. Solidarity Bingo was also 'played' and discussed. Students were also able to sign up for their presentation dates for the third quarter social justice project.
