Content: We discussed the desired budgets and the costs that surprised us (daycare especially). Students then received a notice that they were 'laid off' and they have to re-calculate their actual budgets (minimum wage vs. welfare). We also continued watching The Pursuit of Happyness.

Content: Students used their meal planners, which were to be completed for today, to start the second handout of the poverty project. This handout is a spreadsheet which will look at the cost of the groceries needed for the meals they planned previously. We also looked at nutritional values of the meals. The last part of class was spent watching an Oprah Winfrey special report on poverty in America.
