We are continuing our theme of Human Dignity by beginning the video The Laramie Project. This is the true story of Laramie, Wyoming, in the days immediately following Matthew Shepard's brutal murder because of his sexual orientation. Homework for Tuesday, March 6, is to choose three quotes from the film(they don't have to be exact quotes) and write a 1-2 page, typed, double-spaced, 12 point font reflection paper.

Today was a lot of in-class discussion, starting with the movie, School Ties. We then talked about terms and phrases that we hear that have a derogatory meaning to them (i.e. "that's so gay" or "you're retarded") . We also listed ten descriptions of ourselves starting with "I am . . ." and then shared them with the class, discussing how many of us described ourselves by our ethnicity, skin color, religion, and gender. We tied all of these discussions into School Ties, and talked about how David, the main character, would not have identified himself as a Jew when he first met the guys. There is no homework for Wednesday, but you should continue to work on your quarter projects.
